Prior to their forthcoming European tour, West Palm Beach’s Surfer Blood will headline a weird, carnival-themed festival at a Bal Harbour spa-resort this Thursday. The Ten-In-One Music Festival is a free event, if you don’t count the mandatory $15 valet parking fee. The show starts @ 7 PM and features a handful of other awesome acts including Miami’s ANR, Matthew Ian, Nashville’s Turbo Fruits, and Miami’s DJ Contra spinning alongside students of the UM Frost School of Music. We will be there to document the event.
Miami’s Sweat Records will be celebrating their 5th birthday Saturday, April 17th w/ a free, all-ages block party w/ L.A.’s No Age headlining. The party coincides w/ Record Store Day; limited-edition vinyl will be supplied in-doors. Carpool to the fest and get there early, as some great bands will be performing mid-afternoon (Beings, MillionYoung). The Spookfish teaches English in non-English-speaking countries; Korea, and according to his MySpace page, now Mongolia. His night gig consists of crafting short gems of 8-bit intermissions that bear the markings of current lo-fi peers, but presented with a air of romance rather than relaxation.
